Information:
Phaplu Hospital was built by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1975 with the objective to provide medical services to the densely populated southern part of Solukhumbu District of Nepal.
On completion of the building, the hospital was staffed by New Zealand volunteer doctors and local paramedical staff. The Himalayan Trust of Sir Edmund Hillary has directly managed the hospital from 1975 to 1984. In 1984, Himalayan Trust has officially handed over this hospital to the government of Nepal and eventually became the District Hospital of Solukhumbu District.
The Himalayan Trust has continued its support to Solu Hospital even after its handing over to the government. The support of the Himalayan Trust to Solu Hospital has enabled the doctors and staff at this hospital to maintain its quality medical services to the local community and also maintaining the physical facilities in good order. The Sir Edmund Hillary-Stifftung Deutschland, under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Ingrid Versen has been raising the necessary funds in Germany to support the Solu Hospital for many years in the past and continuing in the same level .
